The work
Dark siam is the red of late autumn — oak leaves holding on after the maples have gone, the last colour in the woods before everything turns brown. It is also the season of the eight-point buck, the weeks when an animal that has spent a year staying hidden becomes suddenly, fatally visible.
The deepest stones sit along the ridge of the skull and lighten toward the base, so the piece holds its darkness at the top and opens as it descends.
