The work
The cobalt shimmer concentrates around the eye sockets and thins as it moves outward — a deliberate weighting, for two reasons. The colour is the northern lights, which anyone who has spent a winter this far north has stood outside in the cold to watch. And the eyes are where a white-tailed buck lives: an animal defined by alertness, by the fact that it sees you long before you see it.
This is the piece built to be suspended. Hung and lit from above, it throws colour onto the floor and the wall behind it.
